Overview:

American pro football, and baseball fans know Bo, those of us who grew up in the late 80s know Bo, Nike sneaker heads know Bo; but who is he really? Jeff Pearlman knows, and after reading his book you will too.

The book covers the life and myths of the great athlete. Jeff did a ton of research, interviewing over 700 people from the great athletes life. Interviews cut across a broad range including family members, friends, ex-girlfriends, team mates from both sports, as well as high school and college coaches.

Solid 4.3 based on the authors great story telling ability and comprehensive body of research. As with most of Jeff’s book, this one was very well written.

Other Thoughts on The Book:

Bo truly did some amazing and remarkable things, which build the mythology of the man. One would expect to find that a book like this would analyze those great feats and dissect them to the point where its no longer interesting. That is not the case however with this book.

Score of 4 based on the valuable and potentially life changing content and simple techniques that you can put into practice to ‘do the tao now.’ Overall great book however some of the ideas are harder to put into practice than others.

Mysterious Affair at Styles, by Agatha Christie

Overview:

Do you love a good murder mystery, where you have to try your wits against the author to see if you can figure out who did it? Well if so, then you’ll have a ton of fun with the mysterious affair at Styles by Agatha Christie.

Hercule Poirot, the great Belgian detective, is a name synonymous with mystery. This is the first book where we meet him, and his good friend Hastings. It is a must read for anyone new to Christie’s work.

This book ranked 4.3 out of 5, based on the timelessness of the story, which focuses on the human factor, and psychology of why people do what they do.  

Other Thoughts on The Book:

You may find this such an entertaining book that you will crave more murder mysteries. If this is the case then consider more of Christie’s works, including those featuring Mrs Marple.

Wolverine: Road of Bones, by David Mack

Overview:

Welcome comic book fans! If you’ve watched the movies and want to know more about the character, if you’re looking for something different than your typical comic book, you’ve found the right book to read with David Mack’s Road of Bones.

Anyone who has sampled the other Wolverine books will have some idea of what to expect with this one. Road of bones focuses on Wolverine taking part in a solo adventure, where he needs to pull favors and basically recruit his own team to help overcome a dangerous and nefarious scheme from the bad guys. Other than a brief conversation with Xavier, no X-men characters are in the book.  It takes time to build up but is action packed, detailed, and highly entertaining.

4.5 based on the writing and engaging story. There were multiple stories within this one that ultimately converge. I love the way the story was put together, going into the African mother’s situation and ultimately having a conversation with Wolverine. Beautifully written, engaging, and you can really visualize the story.

Ultimate Silver Surfer, by Stan Lee

Overview:

If you want to get started reading about a powerful hero from the Marvel universe who you haven’t seen already on the big screen, then you should seriously consider Silver Surfer.

Starts off with the origin story of the Surfer, aka Norin Radd then goes into several short stories featuring him as the main hero against some villains such as Galactus, Mephisto, and the brother of Thanos, Eros.

Solid 3.6 based on the fun and engaging writing of Stan Lee. This book was very well written.

Other Thoughts on The Book:

I like how this hero is portrayed consistently throughout the short stories. In others you may have read, the hero’s strength depends on the villain he’s against, or the point the writer is trying to make.
